Jason & Jovina – A Nature Inspired Wedding

The Couple: Jason and Jovina
The Wedding: June 11th, 2011
The Venue: Bommer Canyon/ Turtle Rock Community Park
Wedding Colors/Style: Natural, Playful, Khaki, Orange and Brown with touches of blue

With Love Event Design acted as the full service coordinator for Jason and Jovina’s nature inspired wedding in June, 2011. The event was personalized to the couple’s interests with very fun and unique details. Instead of having the guests clink their glasses to signal the bride and groom to kiss, they would tap river stones together. Wishes for the bride and groom were hung on the manzanita branch centerpieces rather than in the traditional guest book. The guests enjoyed a full dessert bar with carrot cake, cheese cake, cookies, apple strudel, vanilla cake and cream puffs. For the bouquet and garter toss, the bride and groom decided to toss at the same time, while facing one another. The reception was start to finish FUN! The dance floor was always packed, unique games were played throughout the night, and the guests were constantly smiling and laughing.

Top Chef Surprise Party!

In December, With Love Event Design hosted an amazing Top Chef Surprise Birthday Party. All of the guests had a blast participating, and fulfilling their secret desires to be in a reality show competition!

Location: Smoke House Catering’s kitchen and facilities
Occasion: Ron’s birthday celebration
The competition: The guests formed teams of two and wrote their team names on pre-made chef hats. After the guest of honor arrived, each team drew knives which revealed a number. This number corresponded to a specific prep station and style of food they would have to prepare. Upon the start of the challenge, the teams rushed to the fridge and found their pre-determined ingredients that they would then need to make into a tasty dish to present to the judges.

Here are a few pictures of the judges!

These are some of the dishes presented:

Four teams moved onto the second round- baking!

The final two teams moved on to the “blind taste test” round, and the winning team went home with a lavish gift basket!

Wesley & Mary – An Efflorescent Wedding

This past weekend, With Love acted as the Day Of Coordinator for the wedding of Wesley and Mary. They were such a sweet couple. They held their wedding celebration at the San Diego Botanic Garden.

The flowers were beautifully done by the bride’s friend, Vira.

The full service dinner, along with a delicious Mashed Potato Martini Bar was provided by Smoke House Catering.

One of my favorite touches was the bottle of scotch that remained on the sweetheart table for all of the groom’s friends to partake in.

The day was beautiful and the tropical colors of the wedding were an amazing compliment to the beautiful landscape of the gardens. The couple was extremely in love, and the friends and family were all so excited to be partaking in such a wonderful celebration.

Kurt & Pam – A Bright Spring Wedding

In March, With Love Event Design acted as the day of coordinator for Kurt and Pam’s beautiful Spring wedding. As the day of coordinators, my assistant and I directed the rehearsal, set up and decorated the ceremony and reception, and made sure the wedding day was flawless. (which it was!)

The colorful cake, and the adorable chocolate covered strawberries were done by Elegance on Display

The yellow and white flower arrangements, along with the arrangements behind the bride and groom were done by With Love Event Design

Pastor Mike Mitschke was the wonderful and elegant officiant.

The beautiful and timeless hair and makeup artistry was done by Estella Torres and Bri Kemper

Mike Medina was an awesome DJ who always kept the party fun and entertaining, and Smoke House Catering provided elegant appetizers and an amazing feast for the reception.

Yellow and white lanterns and stringed lights were hung all over the beautiful backyard. The bride and her party effortlessly put together the table centerpieces, which were made up of three tiered cylinders filled with floating candles and flowers. The guests were always smiling, the groom was utterly in love, and the bride looked stunning. The wedding was a complete success!

Boston Rob Cream Pies

For the finale of Survivor last week, I chose to theme my dessert after Boston Rob. (By the way, I can’t believe he won the game AND another 100,000. That’s just wrong!.)

Here is the recipe for Boston Rob Cream Pies!

1 recipe to make 12 of your favorite vanilla cupcakes
3 egg yolks
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/3 C. sugar
1 1/3 C. Milk
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 teaspoon Mexican Vanilla
6 oz semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 C. whipping cream

1. Make your vanilla cupcakes

2. Add sugar, cornstarch and milk into a saucepan on medium heat. Whisk until the mixture is thickened and bubbly. Cook and whisk for two more minutes. In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks lightly.

3. Add 1 cup of the hot mixture to the egg yolks a little at a time, while stirring constantly. Pour all of the mixtures into the saucepan. Cook and stir until it is again bubbly, and then cook an additional two minutes.

4. Remove from heat, and stir in the vanilla and butter until it is melted. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

5. Cut each cupcake in half and fill with the cream.

4. For the chocolate topping, microwave the chocolate pieces and the whipping cream for 1-2 minutes until chocolate melts. I didn’t have whipping cream, so I used whipped cream. Stir the chocolate until smooth.

5. Pour the chocolate topping over the cupcakes, and chill in the fridge for at least 1.5 hours before serving.

6. Enjoy!!!

Wonderland Tea Party!

For Mother’s Day this year, I thought it would be fun to do something a little different for our family brunch. I got randomly inspired by Alice in Wonderland and created a themed brunch resembling the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

The table was decorated with 3 different colored table cloths. (Two of them were actually cool sheets that I found at a thrift store for $1 each.) I also found about 20 whimsical flowers at another thrift store for a total of $1. Lewis Carroll’s riddles were scattered around the table, and the dormouse was placed in his tea pot. Here was one of the riddles. Can you figure it out?

John gave his brother James a box:
About it there were many locks.

James woke and said it gave him pain;
So gave it back to John again.

The box was not with lid supplied,
Yet caused two lids to open wide;

And all these locks had never a key-
What kind of box, then, could it be?

I tried to make everything just a bit more peculiar – added pink dye and glitter to the eggs, sprinkles to the fruit dip, and made the rice krispies with strawberry flavored cereal.

The Ooey Gooey Breakfast Rolls  were the hit of the brunch!

The Poppy Seed Bread with Glaze was also incredible!

And it just wouldn’t be wonderland without a Curious Croquet Ground!

The “croquet set” was actually made by painting golf clubs and balls from the 99 cent store. It didn’t work like real croquet, and the balls never went where you wanted them to, but that just added to the magic of Wonderland!
